This advanced etude for battery percussion challenges both the hands and the mind. Written to “Dancing Machines” by Nova Collective, this etude explores rhythmic sonority and dissonance as well as many different soundscapes within the battery ensemble, including things such as puffies and ribbon crashers for added effect. There is no shortage of time and feel changes in this one, adding yet another challenging layer to an already difficult piece.
This etude is split into two distinct sections at different tempos, the former being quicker paced and rudimental while the latter is a bit more relaxed and textural. Each section has a few exposed feature moments and individual responsibilities are also emphasized elsewhere throughout the piece. The battery often becomes melodic, following the track in both tone and rhythm in certain areas. This etude is sure to be entertaining but be careful, it’s not for the faint of heart!
